We often mistake being happy with being perfect and it just isn't so...just isn't possible. The grass isn't greener, the sky isn't bluer...PERFECTION is, indeed, finding beauty in the imperfection.
I saw a photo on pintrest awhile back of this beautiful white vase...and then a photograph of the vase shattered to pieces and glued back together with gold...imagine that vase now...although broken and flawed, it shined and glistened like it hadn't before...it wasn't near perfect but it was stunning, unique and a magnet for the eyes.
Bliss #happiness is being grateful. Embracing flaws, taking accountability and loving the lessons. Lessons can be people. Lessons can be hard and painful and people can shock and hurt you (it happens to us all in different forms) but the beauty is in how we move forward and put our pieces back into shape. You get to choose how you shape & mold YOU. You get to choose whether to stay in old habits or start fresh and new. You can bleed out or you can stop the bleeding with self love. Have compassion for the unhappy, jealous, & insecure people. Pray for them. In YOGA we regularly send prayers to those who irritate us...its part of karma...wanting everyone to be happy and free. What you wish or throw onto others ricochets back at you tenfold until you learn your lesson/s. Yogi's know this, but we all need to be reminded sometimes...because the universe reminds us, if not.
Many beginners in YOGA or any fitness method share their anxiety about practicing in a class with seasoned practitioners and the best thing about YOGA is that it is creative and does not matter whether you have been practicing for 10 years or 10 days...its challenging every time and yogi's are focusing on calming their own minds, not your physical body or lack there of (if thats in your head). Finding bliss in YOGA (much like every day life) is letting go about worrying or trying to achieve perfection. The awareness and spirituality of each present moment is where the bliss lies. The bliss in YOGA lies in the gifts in each pose.
I cried my eyes out in a foundations class last Wednesday...I mean, I really sobbed...I kept flowing though and finished the practice. I felt ok about it because YOGA is my release, my safe place, my temple, my 4th greatest love after my kids. YOGA is my church. I didn't beat myself up after or feel embarrassed because I knew I needed to let go of what was holding me back so I could flow forward with ease. Truth is, YOGA brings up STUFF...it empties our junk drawers...shows us things we don't want to see or face but it also forgives, always welcomes and supports us like GOD. YOGA doesn't boast or judge...YOGA is for every BODY and every BEING. Never be afraid to go to a YOGA class. Yoga brings us all closer to THE DIVINE...your divine might be a lot different than mine and that's ok...Follow your path. Face your fears and then release. Cry if you need...feel what you need to FEEL. Avoiding your feelings takes you backwards...you can't put a bandaid where stitches are needed.
Try to find ease in each pose and feel how good your body is designed to FEEL. Really listen and tap into your sensuality. Stretching feels good! Extension & Flexion were created for important reasons...MODIFY where you need to modify. Just because the Barbie blonde on your left has her leg behind her head doesn't mean you have to....our bodies are all different and I may be able to stand on my head for 10 minutes but bird of paradise on my left side is treacherous! You may ease into some poses that your neighbor cannot and that is ok. Focus on you and you only. Your mat is your place and no one elses.
THE most important thing in ASANA is breath...connecting your breath with movement calms the mind and eases the soul. When the mind is still, a YOGI achieves long life, it is said. This goes for everyone.
I love the free mediations by Chopra & Oprah...I listened to them every night for weeks through a tough period and they did me a great service. My kids even loved listening and noticeably more relaxed.
Here are some of my favorites if you're intrigued or motivated:
Baptiste has some good ones too...YOUTUBE is your friend. Be creative and have fun exploring getting calm.
May all beings everywhere be happy and free and may you receive or discover the gift that I have in YOGA.
