We often flit into poses with zero foundation and then over effort and open too soon or too much...much like a flower, the pose should bloom mindfully and slowly just like a job, relationship, task and so forth. You cannot leap into anything and land with stable footing if your flight isn't calm, controlled, graceful, practiced and thought-out.
When I teach Crescent lunge, I cue to lengthen the torso, create space in the collar bone, recruit the abdominals and take a slight backbend, some people then gently KNIT the ribs inwards...if the ribs are flared out the pose becomes compromised and muscles that shouldn't be engaged are over compensating. This is a great analogy in daily life...we want to enter all things with an open heart, right? Ya...to an extent, you want to create a strong foundation first before entering ANYTHING and guess what that strong foundation is? IT'S YOU, baby! Ya, you!
Love yourself first. Be stable, solid, happy with YOU before you bring anyone else into your batter...
If you don't know how to bake and you just throw in a bunch of ingredients, the batter isn't going to be sweet...
If you throw a tomato, kale & a bunch of fruits into a juicer, its going to taste rancid and smell like puke...I've seen people do this & heard them wonder why it doesn't taste good:)
There's an art to baking, juicing, asana, and LIFE...when you open your heart, make sure you knit your ribs in and engage your core, or you might just get hurt...
Glide mindfully into everything you put your hands, heart, and mind on...including your THOUGHTS...what you THINK, you become....what you say about others is probably a reflection of yourself...so carefully craftily and lovingly CREATE everything you do. Let your passion be yours, don't ride the yoga pants of someone else's creation, dream, work, thoughts or studio...its not authentic and it will show up in lots of ways you don't want.
Think, act, play, create, bake, juice, and embrace all beings with LOVE...BE YOURSELF. BE AUTHENTIC.
Be an indication of PURE HAPPINESS and others can't help but feel it too.
